On the 3rd day, a Saturday, we went to Fremantle, a port city where the Swan River meets the Indian Ocean, 30 minutes (via train) from Perth. It is famous for the divine beaches, best seafoods, historical prisons and cheaper souvenirs.
It's a quaint but very lively city.
So we took the train from Perth Station. If you are travelling in pairs, it's cheaper to get the family rider fare where for a fee of $12 (about $6 per person), you can hop on and off the train, to any station within Transperth territory the whole day.
Travel tips: Go to Fremantle on the weekends for their weekend markets.
Take the Fremantle Line and get down at the last station. Once you exited the station, turn right towards the CAT bus station. Traveling around in Fremantle town is quite easy as they have free CAT bus.
You can hop on and off any of the destinations along the route. Remember to grab a map which is readily available at the train station.
Our first stop was the Fremantle Market. Wherever you travel, visiting their markets is always a nice thing to do to see their local products/culture/food.
I go crazy in this crystal stall. The crystals are sold at $4-$5 each. |
Our next stop was the South Beach. We got there around noon so it was scorching hot. We ended up sitting under the tree and people watch.
Cik Panda tak paham mat salleh ni, tengah hari buta berjemur bawah matahari. |
The sand was super HOT! fefeeling kan berjalan kaki ayam di pantai. Melecur kaki weols. Look at that amazing clear aquamarine water. Tips: Don't walk barefooted on the beach at noon. |
Their first prisoner was in fact a woman name Mary Cook. |
View of the pier from The Round House
Just a walking distance from The Round House is the pier where we stop for lunch. Seafood at Cicerello's is a must whenever you visit Fremantle.

Grilled squids was a bit bitter but overall it's a great meal. |
After lunch, we walked over to E-Shed market where you can find cheap souvenirs (cheaper than you buy in Perth it is). So there is this shop, Megabest mained by a Singaporean Uncle. Most of the souvenirs are cheaper but the options are quite limited though.
We had coffee and cakes while waiting for the day to be a bit cooler for us to go the beach again.
Took the train again, got down at South Fremantle and walked a little bit to Leighton Beach. This beach is less crowded compared to South Beach. I can't tell you how beautiful their beaches are. The sands are so soft and white and the water is so aquamarinely clear.
It was still quite sunny and hot so we decided to wait until almost sunset for a swim. BIG MISTAKE. By the time it's almost sunset, the water is freezing COLD!

Amazing sight to behold. There's the sunset on one side and there's the storm brewing on the other side |
We leave for Fremantle before it starts to rain and back to the city!
On my next visit, I think I'll stay in Fremantle for the beautiful beaches and the laidback city.
