Malala Yousafzai is not like any other 16 years old teenager. She is one brave, opinionated girl who was known for her education and women's right activism in Pakistan where Taliban ruled. She fought for education for girls (Taliban is known for banning girls from attending school) and in the process, got shot in the head and neck. Miraculously, she survived. Almost being killed did not deter her from fighting for education rights.
She was featured on front page of Time magazine and was one of "The 100 Most Influential People In The World". She was also nominated for the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize, the youngest so far.
"The terrorists thought they would change my aims and stop my ambitions, but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born ... I am not against anyone, neither am I here to speak in terms of personal revenge against the Taliban or any other terrorist group. I'm here to speak up for the right of education for every child. I want education for the sons and daughters of the Taliban and all terrorists and extremists."
That was her first public speech after the assassination attempt.
Inspiring isn't it? Education is important. Knowledge is power. Girls in Pakistan thirst for knowledge but have to face the fear of being killed when attending school. Here in Malaysia, education is free, with good learning facilities and dedicated educators and no one is stopping you from attending schools. Yet students take things for granted.
Penat sikit mau ponteng, demam sikit mau ponteng. Forever and ever konon. Eh, emo pulak.
When you are in school, you would wish you finish with school faster and can't wait to grow up and be an adult. But trust me, schooling days will be the memories you wish to relived again.
