It's normal that when you gather with friends or families, you gossip and talk about people you knew. Who got married, who got a new boyfriend, who got a new job etc. Gossiping and spreading rumours or lies about someone are a totally different thing.
Yes we can't control what people think and say about us. People like to judge. You would expect those close to you or your family to know you or your situation better but that is not always the case. Sometimes, these people are more vicious.
Have someone spread rumours about you?
I used to be chubby but started to lose weight gradually as i leave home to study elsewhere. It's the combination of being more active, taking care of what i eat and stress. The funniest thing (it wasn't funny at that time) someone said about me was i had an abortion that's why i lost so much weight but my boobs are huge (for the record it's not that huge). And this came from someone in the family.
I was angry when i first heard it but my mum was like "Meh, those people are always like that. Ignore them. They didn't contribute anything to our well-being. We can't control what people say."
People talk, spread lies about us because their life is so mundane and they have nothing better to do. They feel by doing that they are one step above us. Sometimes, they do that because of sheer envy and jealousy. You have something that they did not have.
People can talk all they want. Those who loved you won't change their opinion about you and that's all that matters.
