NO IT IS NOT TRUE.
Research have shown that taking soy products WILL NOT CAUSE feminization (increase estrogen and reduce testosterone, grow man boobs, reduced fertility).
The phytoestrogen (that mimics estrogen's effect in the body) is not strong enough to cause this.
Plus when people say "take too much", exactly how much is too much?
The health benefits of taking soy far outweigh the perceived disadvantage.
Here are some facts on soy.
- Has variety of essential nutrients i.e proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals, is naturally cholesterol-free, a source for the omega-3 essential fatty acid ALA.
- contains isoflavones and other antioxidants that are highly beneficial to your health (lowers cholesterol, heart-healthy, helps in post-menopausal symptoms).
- It contains some estrogen-like compounds (phytoestrogens). Studies showed MODERATE quantities of soy do not significantly affect hormone levels in men.
- Some studies have shown that regular intake of soy products can increase breast cancer risks in women. Other studies, however, have found the exact opposite. Soy estrogen can also interfere with breast cancer chemotherapy and medication. If you are a current breast cancer patient or have a history of breast cancer, you should consult with your doctor before drinking soy milk.
Whatever it is, be moderate. Be smart in choosing your soy milk. Per 250 ml serving, look for 8 to 10 grams of protein.
You also should limit refined sugar as flavored soy beverages can have as much as 21 grams of sugar (5 teaspoons worth) per serving.
