I Heard This Song Today And I Thought Of You
A whiff of scent or a song that you have not heard for a long time, suddenly comes on and immediately transports you back to a place, a time, a person, or a memory that you have long forgotten?
Like stepping into a time machine.
A memory that was so fresh as if it just happened yesterday.
Or an emotion so raw and powerful that makes you wonder does time really heal?
It's astounding how one song can trigger so much.
Why does music evoke those specific memories and takes us back to that time?
I was listening to these songs the other day and it reminds me of this young girl who I haven't thought about for a very long time.
She was naive and stupid but full of hope for life and the future, for what the world has to offer. Always being open to new experiences, new people.
Mengejar cinta, cita dan harapan. Chasing love, hopes, and dreams.
She has so many hopes and dreams for herself, of things she wants to achieve.
You know, like most girls that age, she dreams of a perfect husband, marriage, and kids by a certain age. She even picked out names for her future children.
At one point in time, she really did think she has it all figured out.
How naive.
I miss her zest for life, her enthusiasm, her naivety. But most of all, her romanticism and belief in love.
That love conquers all. That in her search for this love, she often forgets how to love herself first and broke her heart over and over again.
Where is this girl now?
I miss that young girl. I truly do despite her naivety and stupidity.
I'm so proud of her. That no matter what happens in her life, no matter how many times she fell, she gets up and tries again.
Always hopeful and making the most of what life throws at her, figuring life lessons along the way, understanding and loving herself better one day at a time.
The hardest lesson for her probably is learning to let go. To let go of the what-ifs, the could-be, the should-be. To let go of who she thought she should be.
Where is that girl now?
Ah! That little girl is in all of us (girls)! For me it is the smell of the flowers of a tree called Flame of the Forest that transports me back to my primary school days. Very evocative!
