Confession of An Introvert Living In Extrovert World
I'm an introvert through and through.
The older I get, the more introverted I become and I embraced this whole-heartedly.
One advantage that comes with age is you understand yourself better and be more comfortable with who you are.

It's a learning process but I no longer want to conform, seek validation or live my life pleasing others.
I'm a listener, observer, and analyzer and would usually prefer peace and quiet.
In a conversation, I tend to listen, analyze what is said, and say something only when I feel like I have something important to contribute.

I am neither shy nor holding myself back, I just don't find it necessary to say something just for the sake of speaking.
I'm detailed oriented, organized, work independently and strive to complete my task.
But I'm never good enough.
I will never be good enough because this is an extrovert world and success or capability is measured and appraised using an extrovert's standards.
In a world that seems to value extroversion, being an introvert can be a challenge.
The world says extroversion is the only path towards success.
Extroverts are usually viewed as leaders because they talk more, even though there is no correlation between speaking often and having ideas that are high in quantity and quality.
Being shy or quiet is viewed as a weakness, something that needs to be fixed.
So our teachers/ lecturers/ superiors/ bosses always comment that we are too quiet, we should be more vocal & outspoken.
Speak up! Promote yourself! Network!
"How do I, an introvert, can be successful in this extrovert-biased society? Do I have to compromise who I am? Fake it till I make it? Act as an extrovert when needed and risk draining myself?"
And I'm not even an extreme introvert.
What do you do when your job demands extroversion?
What do you do when what you doing is not enough and you are asked to be more vocal/ outspoken?
What do you do when you are asked to socialize & network more on your personal time. The time that you need to recharge from work & its demand, time to replenish your energy.
Again, it's a never-ending learning process.
I fake extroversion but most of all I improvise, adapt & overcome. But yeah, I'm still perfecting the art.

Can I change to become an extrovert?
Unfortunately no, according to Dave Byrnes.
It's just how you are wired. You are born with it. It's who you are and not something that can be fixed or changed. An introvert can act as an extrovert but fundamentally, they are still an introvert.
But why would you change?
I love being an introvert. We are awesome and we have a lot of strength too!
