People often remarked I don't look my age. They would always think I'm in my early twenties. How flattering. I'm in fact nearing 30. To tell you the truth, I don't feel like I'm nearing 30 at all. I still feel I'm in my early twenties. Maybe that's the secret huh? It's all in your mind and truth be told, my body might be 30 but my spirit and my soul is way younger than that.
When I was still doing my studies, they will always say
"Oh probably because you are still studying and not working yet. You know how when people who have worked tend to look more matured bla bla bla."
I"m already working now and just the other day someone thought I'm 21!
You know about the saying that says you are what you eat? Lately, I ate a lot of instant food/foods with preservative because I usually got home late at night. Too late and too tired to cook so I depended on cereals and instant noodles. Not the best of foods. Preservatives = preserving me looking young.
Just kidding.
It's probably because I'm not (yet) married, no kids and no other stress-inducing commitments that I carry on my shoulder. But anyway, here's a few things that I believe keep me looking younger than my age.
1. Keep smiling
A while ago, I've written a post about smiling and how it keeps you looking younger and more attractive? Read it HERE. It really does keep you looking youthful you know. I probably have a hint of smile plastered on my face because I've noticed people smiled back at me even when I'm not actually consciously smiling. Am I always that smiley? It really does not take a lot of effort to smile and you could make someone's day by smiling. and my favourite part is, you'll never know who'll fall in love with your smile. Gitewwwww...
2. Choose to be happy
Happiness is a choice and I try everyday to choose to be happy. Happiness, joy and passion is the driving force of decisions I made in my life. I choose the career path I'm doing now because it's my passion. I left the previous one because no matter how much money I make or how prestigious it is, I was really miserable. I personally think that it is important to do things that make you happy. In your career, in your relationships even in your daily activities.
3. Radiate kindness, love and positivity
No matter how badly others treated you. I tend to look for the best in everyone and in that process, always got myself hurt and disappointed. I don't know if it's a weakness or strength. But I do believe that there is good in everyone and it is important to be kind.
Jangan berprasangka buruk. Jangan menghakimi. Cuba untuk memahami.
Yesterday, a friend (who I never met) of colleague asked me my birth date then proceed on telling me about my character based on birth date.
"You are very friendly and kind. You can get along very easily with everybody and everyone feels comfortable with you. You have no enemy."
Those who have known me long enough, do you think it's true?
4. Have fun!
This is in keeping with choosing to be happy. Do things for fun. Do things that make you happy. Dancing kept me happy so I joined zumba and dance classes in the gym. Reading made me happy so I spend my money on books. Writing kept me happy so I blog. Family and friends kept me happy so I made a point of going back whenever I could. Travelling kept me happy and opened my eyes to so many things.
Hmm..where next? |
Exercise makes you younger and happier. Does not matter if it's just brisk walking or a jog, you've got to keep yourself active. Dance gave me double dose of youthfulness. It's an exercise and it's something that made me happy. Find something that you love.
6. Don't smoke, reduce your alcohol intake and live a healthy life.
I don't smoke. I'm too vain to smoke because smoking gives you wrinkles and dehydrates your skin. It stains your teeth and gum. There are many times that I'm tempted to but no, I'm just too vain. I don't really drink alcohol. Socially I do but I just don't fancy the taste.
You are what you eat. Try to eat a balance meal. Drink more water. Take antioxidants (I take multivitamins, basic antioxidants and vitamin C). Take good care of your skin (I drink LEMON WATER, I even smear LEMON JUICE ON FACE, used vitamin E cream for beautiful skin). Get a good night sleep. Surround yourself with people you love. Be grateful with what you are blessed with.
As you have noticed, youthfulness is more on the inside than the outside. Age is just a number. It all worked for me and hope it works for you too.
