It's getting more and more common to hear someone getting snatched, robbed and such. Things like people smashing your car window to grab your bag while you are waiting at the traffic light is also not unheard of. It is delusional to think that things like this won't happen to you or to anyone you loved. We cannot stop people from stealing or robbing but we definitely can prevent ourselves from becoming a victim. These are a few simple but practical tips to follow.
1. While walking on roadside, do not happily swing your handbag on shoulder/hand that is facing the road. Yes you maybe don't have a lot of money in there but the snatch thieves do not know that. They will do anything to get your bag, even to the point of dragging you 500 meters till you let go of the bag.
2. Be aware of your surrounding - meaning no texting, talking on the phone, listening to MP3 while walking. You are an easy target when you are distracted.
3. If you are driving, do not put your handbag on the passenger seat or places people can see.
4. When getting back to your parking lot (malls etc), get your car keys ready before you enter the parking lot so you don't have to rummage in your bag looking for keys. This is especially important in malls where the parking lot is usually deserted.
5. Lock your car door at all times and make it a habit to lock it as soon as you get into the car.
Nowadays, it is not enough to be book-smart. Let's all be street smart and keep safe!
