Weight Loss Hype: Raspberry Ketone and Garcinia Cambogia


Weight loss is a big profitable business. Weight loss products will always surface in the market, claiming they are the magic bullet for losing weight. 

People are not aware that some of these products have no scientific proof to them. 

Losing weight without proper diet and exercise while consuming these products sounds bullshit to me. 

But there are still so many people out there who are fooled by this. And most of these products are not cheap. The only thing that's losing weight is your wallet. 

I guess desperate times called for desperate measures eh?

Raspberry Ketone

Raspberry ketones were the hype of weight loss some time ago. It is made even more popular by Dr. Oz. 


Raspberry ketones are the chemical compounds that give raspberries their aroma. When it is extracted, it can be used to add fragrance, flavour or colouring to things like fizzy drinks, ice cream and cosmetics.




Has it ever crossed your mind that people pay Dr.Oz tons of money to promote their products like that?

They claimed that raspberry ketone supplements could help melt away fat and prevent weight gain, even with a high-fat diet. 

It is an unproven claim and there have been no human studies so far on the weight loss effects of raspberry ketones. 

The only research on the effect of raspberry ketones on fat is a handful of animal studies. The studies were done over the last 10 to 15 years. Researchers looked at the effect of raspberry ketones on rats, mice, and rabbits.

We are not mice or rabbits. 

Our physiological function is even more complicated than mice or rabbits. We need a human clinical study to prove the effectiveness of these products on humans.

Garcinia Cambogia

The latest craze is Garnicia Cambogia or extract of Asam Keping. 

And of course, it is also made famous by Dr.Oz, even claiming it to be 'magic'. 



The active ingredient is called hydroxycitric acid (HCA) and is said to block fat, suppress the appetite, allegedly decrease belly fat, controls emotional eating and changes body composition by increasing lean muscle mass. 

It doesn’t just produce weight loss, but it improves overall health. 

It is said to decrease cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides by 10-30% and to raise levels of the “good cholesterol” HDL. 

Sounds too good to be true. It probably is. 

Animal studies show that the active ingredient can inhibit a fat-producing enzyme called Citrate Lyase and increase serotonin levels, leading to significant weight loss. 

Human studies on the other hand have been inconsistent.

I personally think that these products and all other weight loss products are just supportive. 

To effectively lose weight, you've got to watch what you eat and exercise, exercise, exercise and you've got to have a fierce determination.

  3. This is such a nice blog pertaining to weight loss remedies. However, i must say that weight loss supplements didn't work for me in the past and i decided to go green.
