The 5 Love Languages. What's Yours?

Did you know that there are actually 5 love languages and each and every one of us speaks different kind of language?

Well, not that different but all of us have our own main love language.

I absolutely love the book "The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. It suggests that we humans express love in different ways, namely in the 5 following ways:

1. Words of affirmation – you need to hear words of encouragement, praise or affirmations to feel loved. i.e You are really good or you did well!

2. Quality time – Spending time together, doing little things together, watching the sunset and have deep conversation.

3. Receiving/giving gifts – people who speak this language are not materialistic. Even an inexpensive and small gift is enough to make them feel loved and appreciated. They feel loved when people buys them gifts and they really do appreciate the gifts.

4. Acts of Service –  people who speak this language likes to be taken care of things like getting groceries, fixing things around the house, running errands.

5. Physical Touch – Those who speak this language feels loved when their partner constantly doing things such as caressesing their face, holds your hand even at home, gives you a hug without being asked, etc. (Physical touch is not the same as sex, but it can often lead to that.)

The love is not only confined to romantic love. It includes all kinds of love. i.e relationship with siblings, friends or even colleagues.

You can find out your love language by doing the quiz here.

I found out mine was physical touch. Cough cough. Ah..no wonder la. Well anyway, the cruelest way to hurt a person who speak this language is to simply deny them any physical contact.

Ouchh.

And then as time goes by, few years after I did the quiz the first time, I did it again and surprisingly my main language has evolved to Acts of Service.

Maybe I'm not that horny touchy feely as before. Kaaahhhhhh!

Well, I mean if you are gonna share a home or life with someone, you want someone who shares the house chores with you right?

At this age, I appreciate someone who helps me to change the light bulbs or help to vacuum the house or at least help to water my plants. More than some guy who wants to kiss or hug or cuddle all day long.

Rimas hakak tau. Banyak keja rumah nak buat ni. hahaha.

Anyway, do read this book. It is highly recommended.

This was the edition i read

  2. Mainly by observing them and be attentive to things they say or complaint about. Like for example they say "How come you never buy me gifts anymore?" might indicate they speak "Gift of love" or when they always say "You don"t hold my hand anymore" might indicate they speak "Physical touch". A must read book :)

Mat Salleh Boyfriend Is Better?

I have known a lot of ladies who wanted a mat salleh/white/foreigner boyfriend. My partner-in-crime repeatedly chant this "scruffy look, biceps and tattoos are must." ahem.  Sometimes it's like you strike a lottery if you managed to get a white boyfriend. It's like a trophy.  Are local men not good enough? Where are all the good local man anyway? Why these girls wanted a foreign man?  They said mat salleh are more romantic, respectful of woman and treat them as an equal. They are also more thoughtful and are generous with their public display of affection.  My aunt married a British. On their 30th wedding anniversary, her husband got up early and bought her a bouquet of flower and a card. Such a simple gesture but not many man can do that. Even after 30 years of marriage, they still hold hands when they walked.  I'm not saying local man are not good enough. There are still good ones around. I think it all depends on how they were brought u...

Sarawakians and Gardenia's bun obsession

Sarawakians And Gardenia's Bun Obsession Have you observed in the airport shop, people carrying baskets and plastics full of Gardenia's bread/buns?  Or there's no more space left for your luggage in the overhead compartment of the airplane because it is stuffed with buns? Tiada space di overhead compartment itu memang mengundang kemarahan. These people are most definitely Sarawakians (my friends claimed Sabahans do that too).  I don't know who started it but the obsession with Gardenia buns happened because there is no Gardenia in Sarawak. Why oh why.  It's not like there are no good buns or bakeries in Sarawak. It's just that Gardenia has this sense of awe to it.  like "These are not sold in Kuching you know."  or "Bapak kamek beli tok dari KL nun, kitak tek ada?"  or something like that...It's like a souvenir from KL. It's similar to the obsession of Peninsular Malaysians with Kek Lapis.  Anyway, some of their bre...

Girls Talk: Is Dating A Good-Looking Guy Worth It?

*Speechless* We all like to look at someone good-looking. We all drool at them, we fantasize about them. You would be lying if you never wonder what it feels like to have a good-looking, gorgeous, handsome boyfriend/husband. I did. I always did.  Macam mana la rasa kalau ada boyfriend/husband handsome? Untung la kalau ada boyfriend/husband handsome. Persoalannya, untung ka ada boyfriend/husband handsome? One of the thing about being with someone good-looking is it gave you an ego boost. There is something tangible about showing him off to everyone. something like "omg. how did you nail him? He's like the most eligible bachelor on earth! How lucky." Kembang hidung. It would be great if only a few people—trustworthy friends, important relatives, ex-boyfriends—could see how beautiful your other half is. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and there are lots of other women, women who are more beautiful than you are, brazenly flirt with your man. Oh you know how co...
