Common Mistakes In Weight Loss Attempt

There's no such thing as losing weight without increased physical activity (i.e exercise) or reduced calorie intake (i.e dieting). 

Overweight and obesity is most often caused by our lifestyle. Don't blame the genetics. Of course in some cases it's due to medical condition i.e hypothyroidism but most factors are modifiable. 

How do I lose/maintain my weight? To be honest, it's all about hard work and determination. 

How's my food intake?

I'm not a fan of Atkin's diet or whatever diet there is. I don't believe in restricting yourself. I don't believe in "This is bad food. Avoid it." I don't believe in diets that avoid rice but pile up on bread and noodles. Rice, bread and noodles are all carbs. Atkins diet is good but as Asians, how long can you avoid rice?

Eating is one of the pleasures in life. Would you want to be skinny but miserable?

Since so long, I practiced moderation. I eat everything and my favourite is fried foods but I eat in moderation. I take smaller portion. I eat slowly so I'll feel full faster. I don't eat till I'm stuffed, I'll eat until I'm not hungry but not too full. 

Eat more protein as it makes you more satiated than carbs or fats. It will also sustain you much longer. Reduce your sugar intake/sugary drinks. Indulge but in moderation

Exercise, exercise, exercise

I've always emphasized the importance of exercising. Ask all my friends and they will tell you I'm an active person. Before I joined a gym, I'll jog (even though I hate jogging) or swim. It's not only for weight management but also good stress reliever and I sleep better at night. 

How do you stay motivated in exercising?

Find something that you love doing so it will not feel like a chore. I love dancing so I do Zumba, Sh'bam and cardio dance. Since I love it, I'll always look forward for my next workout. 

Join a gym. I can honestly tell you it's worth the money. If you have extra budget, hire a personal trainer. Sure you can do weight training on your own but trainers can teach you the proper way of doing certain things so you can achieve better result and most importantly, not hurt yourself in the process. 

Do weight training to build more muscle and tone up. When your muscle mass is satisfactory, you'll burn more calorie even when you are resting. Read HERE on why weight training is important. 

Supplements I took?

When you are active and you don't eat proper meal (like me), you need to supplement yourself with basic nutrients. I take multivitamins, fish oil and vitamin C.

I also take fat burners before my exercise basically to give me more energy and to help me burn fat more efficiently. I take protein drinks after workout for recovery and help me become leaner.

What are the fat burners you can take?

1. Caffeine based (Thermogenics) - I took this for my pre-workout. Usually caffeine based products will increase your metabolism so you burn more calorie. You'll feel energetic (to the point of being restless, jittery), warmer and sweat like a pig. 

But just keep in mind, caffeine based products are not suitable for those who are intolerant to caffeine or those with hypertension

2. Non-caffeine based - CLA (here's the LINK to read more about CLA) and L-Carnitine ( read HERE)
