You know right I work in an area populated with VIPs, the rich and the famous and sometimes the rich and perasan famous. I've written about the story here. Some of them were nice but most were terribly rude, pompous, arrogant and self-righteous.
The datins and rich man's daughters will strut in the outlet, totting their LV, Prada, Hermes, Coach, Miu Miu, Michael Kors and all other expensive handbags. They will point at things with their manicured fingers, while fluffing their just-came-out-of-saloon hair and talk in unidentifiable accent (American? British? Australian?). All I know is they don't sound like Malaysian at all. The housewives will come in with their perfectly dressed little kids while their poor foreign nanny pushed the stroller and the maids carry the shopping bags full with organic, healthy stuff.
Most of them will come in and say "Omg. Why is it so expensive?! I can get this for only 30 bucks in US you know?" (Please try and read that in American accent)
They will come in and say "Ohh I won't be here long. I'll be in London for a long time. Just came back for a few months. I'm based in London." Selalu diorang sebut London la, US la. As if those places were just behind their houses.
And when you greet them Dato xx or Tan Sri XX, you'll immediately how their face light-up. Pffttttt...
Sometimes their driver or bodyguards will come in with their uniform. Most of the time, they will stand guard next to the fancy, expensive cars in the parking lot.
My colleague in a nearby placed once experienced a Malaysian female minister and her family came in to the outlet. The daughter was extremely rude and arrogant. Oh please la, it's your mum who is a VIP. Not you. Once, a VIP's son said to the staff "Cepat sikit boleh tak? I ni anak Dato so and so tau!"
PIC's work needs her to deal with public. So one day her company was doing a dialogue with residents of a well-off neighbourhood regarding construction of public transport's amenities. So one of the resident who was obviously against the construction said "I don't need this. Do you know I've got 3 BMW's at home?"
Like, hello? Come on la.
It's so sad that most of this rude and pompous rich people are Malaysians. The westerners we've met were always polite and grateful.
I once saw a maid was struggling to carry heavy grocery bags on her shoulder. 3 white boys were with her and it was so sweet of the boys trying to help her with the groceries bag but she was a bit reluctant to let them help. Mungkin takut kena marah bos. Cuba kalau Malaysian rich kids, itu maid kena marah lagi sebab jalan lambat2.
Come on la. Duit tidak membezakan kamu pun. Just because you are rich, you can be rude to others and look down on people? Thought everyone else is beneath you?
It's like they traded in their manners with money and wealth.
