How Lunchtime Is A Self-Care Time
Pardon my hiatus. Should I continue writing?Because honestly, people don't read blogs anymore. They scroll through social media, barely taking the time to read & verify the facts before sharing the next hot news.
Instant gratification.
But to those who continue to read my blog, THANK YOU SO MUCH! you are the reason that I live.
Chewaaahhhhh.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I attended a talk on Mental Health Fitness. The speaker was very passionate about mental health and in my personal opinion, the talk was very enlightening & informative.
One thing that really struck me was when she talks about how lunchtime is actually your self-care time.

I never have thought of it that way!
She asked us what do we usually do during our 1-hour lunch break.
Normally you would have your lunch right? and some catching up with your colleagues, taking a break from work. Some people do light window shopping.
And then what else do you do automatically, almost unconsciously?
You scroll through your social media.
Harmless right? You just want to keep yourself updated with what the rest of the world doing.
WRONG.
It can be the most harmful thing you do. More harmful than the fried chicken & boba milk tea you had for lunch.

What do you see when you scroll through your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok etc?
You see your friends vacationing, going to exotic places and you start to feel miserable because not only do you have to work, but you have to work goddamned 12 hours, all day every day.
Scroll again and then you see that beautiful handbag that you can't afford because you have so many bills to pay. Another negative thought enters your mind.
"Working for all these hours yet not enough money to buy nice things for myself"
And then you saw that friend of yours who just gave birth last month looking so fabulous, flat tummy and all, skin & hair looking flawless.
And her baby, oh so angelic & well behaved.
And yet here you are one year after your baby was born, all the flab is still stubbornly there and your child, oh you love her dearly but you remembered how she kept you up all night screaming & crying.
You feel like a loser and all these negative thoughts linger & stay with you even after your lunchtime.
It stays with you when you go home to your messy house, unfolded clothes & screaming toddler.
Do you realize that your self-care hour has turned into self-harm hour?
Interesting eh?
